Job Description
The University of the Virgin Islands is a Historically Black publicly supported land-grant institution. UVI is seeking faculty who will ensure that students meet high academic standards in a nurturing and learner-centered environment in keeping with our HBCU status and with interests, experience and expertise in curriculum innovation, interdisciplinary studies and distance education, as well as teaching and scholarly excellence in their specialties. In addition, academic programs support our land grant designation by integrating instruction with research and community service. Appointee must be able to work productively with students and colleagues of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds; serve on the University's committees; and contribute to the university's strategic plan, Greatness Through Innovation. The appointee will also be expected to carry out normal faculty responsibilities, including scholarly research and writing, community assignments, students' advisement and be able to write/monitor grants.
The College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences is seeking candidates for the Spring 2024 semester who will teach a minimum of 24 credit hours per academic year at the undergraduate level. Applicants should possess a doctorate degree in Developmental, Experimental, or Social Psychology or a closely related field, a strong research background, as well as two or more years of teaching in a comparable higher education setting. A demonstrated interest and ability to work with students from a broad range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds is essential. An emphasis on the cultural context of human behavior and knowledge of the Caribbean are very desirable. Adaptability, personal maturity and genuine interest in students are important assets. The successful candidate will teach Research Methods, History and Systems of Psychology, Social Psychology, and Psychology of Learning to name a few.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess a doctorate degree in Developmental, Experimental, or Social Psychology or a closely related field, a strong research background, as well as two or more years of teaching in a comparable higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications
While performing job duties, employee will be required to stand, walk, sit, reach, talk, hear, and lift up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close, distance and color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Work environment: The noise level in the work environment will probably be low to moderate.
