The Department of Psychology at Central Washington University (Ellensburg, WA) is seeking an Assistant Professor in Psychology for a tenure-track position, specifically to support the School Psychology graduate program. We are looking for candidates who will have a strong commitment to teaching, research, and mentoring students in our School Psychology Ed.S. program and teaching and advising our undergraduate psychology students. Specifically, we are searching for candidates who will teach graduate level school psychology and undergraduate level psychology courses, mentor undergraduate and/or graduate research, as well as have multicultural competence and experience working with diverse populations.

    Required Qualifications

    Please address in your cover letter:
  • An earned doctorate in school psychology or a closely related field with eligibility for certification as a school psychologist by September 16, 2024.
  • Experience with teaching both graduate level school psychology and undergraduate level psychology courses that can engage and inspire students from different racial/ethnic and socio-economic groups.
  • Demonstrated commitment and/or experience to inclusive mentoring of students in undergraduate and/or graduate research and through teaching and/or mentoring activities.
  • Experience applying culturally responsive teaching practices in working with diverse student populations.
  • Possess superior teaching abilities
  • Willingness to teach a wide range of courses at all levels and modalities
  • Ability to meet or exceed tenure requirements
  • Teaching, research, service or other experience that has prepared the candidate to contribute to CWU's commitment to the engagement and inclusion of culturally diverse students.

    Job Duties

    Faculty are bound to observe in all official acts the highest standards of ethics consistent with the State of Washington statutes, the regulations of the Executive Ethics Board and its advisory opinions, the policies of the University Board of Trustees, and the University Student Rights and Responsibilities.

    The primary professional responsibilities of tenured and tenure-track faculty members are teaching, scholarship, and service.

    Teaching:
    Classroom and online delivery of instruction in psychology graduate and undergraduate academic courses with assigned workload units; preparation of student materials for classes; preparation of a new course or substantial revision of an older course; advising of graduate students in school psychology; supervision of school psychology practica; supervision of graduate student research; supervision of directed study through individualized courses; attend classes as scheduled and maintain office hours; and other activities benefiting students' academic development.
    Scholarship/Creative Activity:
    All professional activities leading to publication or formal presentation in school psychology or leading to external funding recognizing the faculty member's current or potential contribution to the discipline. Such activities include manuscript submission, professional conference presentations, grant proposal submission, and/or supervision of externally funded research projects.
    Service:
    Public service: Serve in organized, non-remunerative, educational and consultative activities which relate to a faculty's professional expertise and further the interests or prestige of the University.

    University service: Participate in accreditation and/or program development; work on recognized administrative, department, college, school or university committees; and other tasks as deemed necessary by the University.

    Professional service: Serve on grant, journal, or accreditation review boards, or as an ad hoc reviewer, in the faculty's area of expertise; serve as an officer in a professional society or organization; organize and/or chair conferences, symposia, seminars, etc.; and/or edit journals, books, special volumes of papers, etc.
    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions
    Describe working environment (office, field, indoors/outdoors, exposure to risks, safety requirements, etc.) and anticipated variation in working hours (such as flexible schedule, some evening and weekend work, occasional travel)
    Work is performed in an indoor office, classroom, training clinic setting, and K-12 school setting with frequent in-person interactions.It is essential to be able to work at a desk/computer workstation, when necessary. Some evening work and occasional travel may be required.
