Full Time; Partial Career
Starting Salary Range: $14,000 - $16,667 per month for 11 months, with a 1-month unpaid furlough annually. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Psychiatry, the psychiatrist evaluates and treats patients in an outpatient setting located within Student Health Services in the Counseling and Psychological Services Department of the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC).

The UCSC Psychiatry Service emphasizes crisis intervention, medication management, supportive psychotherapy in conjunction with medication management and consultations with other medical providers, counselors, and other campus administrators and staff.

The Psychiatry team is led by the Director of Psychiatry and consists of a Psychiatrists, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, Case Managers and a Medical Assistant.

A partial-year career appointment is established to accommodate foreseeable seasonal fluctuations in staffing, operational, or other needs and contains regularly scheduled furlough periods during which the incumbent remains an employee and retains health benefits, but is not at work. Please note that the Psychiatrist's furlough period is for 1 month in the summer (dates to be determined) and is unpaid time off.

While the department preference is to hire for a full-time (100%) position, if a candidate prefers to work part-time (less than 5 days per week), this option can be discussed at interview and formally considered.

This position is Union Represented and is a member of the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD). Current contract is in effect through 2019 and includes annual salary increases of 3%.

Qualifications include:

Experience providing service to a young adult population.

Experience working in outpatient setting in psychiatry.

Good written and oral communication skills, including medical charting and correspondence; Ability to chart and document in an electronic medical record.

Demonstrated knowledge in the areas of evaluation and treatment, crisis intervention, medication management, supportive psychotherapy in conjunction with medication management and consultation with clinical and administrative staff.

Ability to work and communicate in a positive and cooperative manner.
