Psychology: Assistant Professor of Developmental Psychology (Open Until Filled; Initial Review 11/16/20)

The Department of Psychology at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Developmental Psychology, with a focus on the role of diversity and inequality in learning during early and middle childhood. We seek to enhance our Developmental Psychology program's long-established strengths in studying the lived experiences of children from diverse backgrounds, bridging traditionally separate areas of developmental research, and integrating cultural, interpersonal, and individual aspects of human development. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research addresses the topics of diversity and social inequality in human development using a strengths-based approach. For example, candidates' research might focus on ways to leverage the learning strengths of children from historically underserved backgrounds, with attention to the familial, educational, political, technological, and/or economic infrastructure for (and barriers to) their learning. As another example, candidates' research might focus on how children from different backgrounds learn from their everyday experiences.

Applicants should be actively engaged in research with the promise of continued research productivity. In addition, they should be capable of teaching courses at both graduate and undergraduate levels and contribute significantly to the mentoring of graduate students. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic community through their research, teaching, and service. The successful candidate must work well with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds. UC Santa Cruz is a Hispanic-Serving Institution with a high proportion of first-generation undergraduate students.

We welcome candidates who understand the barriers facing women and minorities who are underrepresented in higher education careers (as evidenced by life experiences and educational background), and who have experience in equity and diversity with respect to teaching, mentoring, research, life experiences, or service towards building an equitable and diverse scholarly environment.
