About the Job
Under direct supervision of the Director of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and designated supervisors, uses advanced skills as a highly experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and campus policies and procedure. Functions with a high degree of autonomy in using good judgement in working with complex cases. May perform other related tasks that are a part of the agency's operation. Ability to function in an environment controlled by HIPAA, FERPA, CMIA, CANRA, and other regulations. Functions as a team player in support of colleagues and departmental needs. Weekend and evening hours may be required throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Applies advanced concepts to provide counseling, clinical consultation and/or psychotherapy to clients.
  • Develops and communicates treatment plans, provides therapeutic crisis intervention/management and emergency services as required.
  • Assesses clients and determines appropriate therapeutic approach; provides guidance to other providers on casework.
  • Develops and/or leads educational workshops, support groups, and/or retreats for center.
  • As a technical leader, performs specialized evaluation, diagnosis, and psychotherapy for the most complex cases.

    Qualifications
  • Master's degree in related area and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related experience, or equivalent experience/training.
  • Licenses LMFT, LCWS, or LPCC.
  • Candidates must demonstrate commitment to serving underrepresented and/or marginalized populations.
  • Experience working with Black, African-American, Latinx, and LGBTQ+ communities in academia preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of clinical counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards. Advanced knowledge of a specific counseling domain.
  • Advanced knowledge of legal and ethical issues related to patients' rights.
  • Advanced ability to evaluate the progress of therapeutic approach and modify as necessary. Advanced ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
  • Advanced problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative manner with diverse client group.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication with the ability to influence and persuade.
  • Skills associated with program development and implementation.
  • Knowledge of business software and specialized applications/systems used in behavioral health settings.
  • Adherence to CANRA guidelines. Is a mandated reporter.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Ability to establish rapport with others as a requisite for healthy and therapeutic relationships.
  • Ability to deal effectively with a high level of stress, emotionality, and ambiguity. Ability to effectively weigh and evaluate personal needs, student-client needs, and the aims and policies of the agency, and to respond to and negotiate these competing needs. Ability to be both consistent and flexible, as circumstances warrant.
