Must possess a valid driver's license issued by the State where the applicant resides and must be insurable as defined in the UT System UTS 157, as applicable to the performance of essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

Purpose of Position


Under moderate supervision and with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment, counsels individuals or groups presenting with career indecision, psychological or emotional problems such as, but not limited to, stress, trauma, substance abuse, or family situations. Develops and implements therapeutic treatment plans. Provides supervision to masters, doctoral, and post-doctoral level trainees. Also provides outreach prevention programs, and consults with faculty and staff regarding student concerns.


Essential Functions


Interviews clients to obtain pertinent information regarding clients' presenting concerns


Provides psychotherapy to clients who present with mental health or behavioral problems, as well as other issues that may impact a client's academic success or quality of life


Completes mental status exams and psychological batteries as necessary


Changes method and degree of therapy when indicated by client reactions


Discusses progress toward goals with client such as improving body image, self-esteem, stress, or substance abuse


Consults with other specialists as needed


Refers client to supportive services to supplement treatment and counseling


Provides crisis intervention


Provides clinical, consultation and outreach services both in person and virtually


Develops, administers and coordinates outreach presentations and other programming to students, faculty and staff


Selects and administers various psychodiagnostic tests, to identify behavioral or personality traits that may impact career decisions and academic success


Reviews and records test results and discusses those results with clients


Develops evaluative studies of therapy and therapy outcome


Conducts research in appropriate treatment protocols for clients


Participates in both internship and practicum programs through providing but not limited to the following services: individual supervision, group supervision, supervision of supervision, training and competency evaluation


Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and able to learn and use institutional software systems


Complies with all State and University policies


Complies with ethical conduct guidelines as described by the American Psychological Association's code of conduct


Complies with the Texas Health and Safety Code and The Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists' statutes and rules


Some after-hours work is required


Other duties may be assigned


Required Qualifications

Minimum Education Required: Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from a regionally approved program


Minimum Experience Required: Completed a formal internship program, license eligible in the state of Texas within 12 months of hire


Preferred Qualifications


Two years post-licensed experience as a psychologist, graduated from and completed an APA accredited doctoral and internship program, experience providing supervision to graduate level trainees in psychology, social work, and/or counselling, experience with administering assessment batteries for disabilities assessment (LD, ADHD, ED) and strong psychodiagnostic report writing skills, bi-lingual Spanish-English, outreach experience
